Via Twitter, Kyagulanyi - also known as Bobi Wine - said on Wednesday that he was "headed home" and showed a picture of himself at an airport holding a walking stick.
Staff at JKIA were excited as they scampered for a photo with the youthful politician.
And Bobi Wine, an Independent MP, strengthened his political stand at the time by opposing scrapping of the upper presidential age cap.
His treatment by Ugandan authorities has been condemned by the EU, UK and US - earlier this week a group of US Senators warned that democracy in Uganda was "backsliding".
Hon. Kyagulanyi was picked by the Police shortly upon disembarking from the KQ plane this afternoon upon his arrival at Entebbe airport after his return from the United States of America and driven by police amid tight security straight to his home in Kasangati.
The official, who was not authorized to speak on the record, told Reuters that Kyagulanyi, a prominent critic of President Yoweri Museveni, was "just being taken home".
The 36-year-old Ssentamu says he is fighting for freedom from oppression and wants Museveni, in power since 1986, to retire.
The singer, who won a national assembly seat previous year, faces treason charges over his alleged role in an incident last month in which the president's convoy was pelted with stones.
Police said they had received information that supporters of Kyagulanyi planned to stage rallies and processions on his return but had not sought permission.
The singer and opposition lawmaker denies wrongdoing and says that "it looks like the government is determined to keep us slaves in our own country". "Like I said, we must get our freedom or we shall die trying to get it", Mr Kyagulanyi said. The Kyadondo East legislator was picked shortly upon disembarking from the KQ plane and security forces have whisked him away to an unknown location, reports George Okello.
Ahead of his return, security forces set up barriers near the airport and elsewhere around the capital amid heavy security. Armoured personnel carriers and police vehicles lined the highway.
