There are 5.25 million people under hurricane warnings and watches and another 4.89 million under tropical storm watches and warnings.
Florence is continuing to move west-northwest at 17 miles per hour, with winds in the 130 miles per hour range, but is giving hints of deviations, says the National Hurricane Center.

Met Éireann said: "Current indications are that (ex-) tropical storm Helene will approach Ireland's south coast during Tuesday".

Federal officials are urging anyone who ignored orders to evacuate from Hurricane Florence to hunker down and stay put until the storm passes.
The Ocean Resort Casino announced on Twitter that they were at capacity Thursday morning, and rooms were booked up through Saturday, September 15.
"It has moved in", said Jordan Baker, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service Office in Wilmington. The National Weather Service is warning residents of the South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia coastlines that life-threatening storm surge is "highly likely", with water levels predicted to reach 9-13 feet in some areas.
