Mr Trump said he had given the PM a suggestion about how to come out on top in the talks but "she found it maybe too brutal".
U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday acknowledged that his upcoming visit with British Prime Minister Theresa May comes during a time of "turmoil" in her country and said it was up to the British people to decide whether May remains in power.
The white paper produced by the UK Government represents an evolution in its position on Brexit, Irish prime minister Leo Varadkar has said.
"She's a very smart, very tough, very capable person and I would much rather have her as my friend than my enemy, that I can tell you", he added.

Speaking as he prepared to depart for a European trip in which he will meet the Prime Minister at the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit in Brussels before his first visit to the United Kingdom as U.S. president, Mr Trump insisted he got along with Mrs May "very well".

The U.S. dollar recovered from a 3-1/2 week low on Monday as the pound dived following the announcement that UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson resigned from the government. He dislikes everything I believe in and believes in everyone I dislike! "So I think that symbolises how he considers the importance of her leadership in this country right now".
The Daily Telegraph has said that Mr Johnson is to resume his weekly column for the newspaper, which he gave up when he became foreign secretary in 2016.
