The 6-month-old golden retriever named Todd took a bite in the face from the snake, saving his owner, Paula Goodwin, from the attack.
According to AZ Family, Paula Goodwin was walking with her dogs in Anthem when she nearly stepped on a rattlesnake.
Realizing immediately that Todd had been bitten, "I picked him up and ran down the hill, called the animal hospital where I live [nearby] and told them that I would be there in five minutes", she said.
"My hero of a puppy Todd saved me".
"He jumped right in front of my leg where I surely would have got bit".
"This is what a hero looks like", Godwin wrote alongside photos of Todd, showing the dog's swollen face. Todd ended up suffering a serious bite on his snout.
Paula very almost stood on the nasty snake, which was resting on the road, but the hero pooch threw himself in front of his owner to save her from a painful bite.
It has been interacted with more than 200,000 times since it was posted Sunday afternoon.
Godwin had already walked her dogs to the top of the trail and was headed back down when the snake bit Todd.
Paula said of the fundraiser: "Todd wants to help more puppies that may need help". Thankfully, the fearless pooch is expected to make a full recovery.
"Todd's doing so well he is a wonder to me how he is healing", added Paula in a later post on Facebook.
Todd is expected to be OK though.
