President Donald Trump's stepped-up campaign tour this week is taking him to North Dakota to help a Republican candidate who reluctantly entered a high-stakes Senate race and then questioned the support he has received from the White House.
"I'm very honored that he chose to do it during my term in office", Trump said of Kennedy during a 70-minute freewheeling speech at a rally in this Republican stronghold, "because he felt confident for me to make the right choice and carry on his great legacy" - one that has been far more moderate than Trump's. "It's the most important thing we can do ..."
Cramer says the hubbub was "more about the White House than me", but some Republicans believe it's time for Trump to take on Heitkamp. "We don't have enough".
The rally also comes the day after Trump claimed "profound vindication" following the Supreme Court's ruling upholding his controversial travel ban. Trump hit Heitkamp on voting "no" on the Senate repeal of Obamacare-although he took a harsher backhanded shot at Sen. He argued Heitkamp will vote against his pick, although she supported his first nominee, Neil Gorsuch.
"We must elect more Republicans, we have to do that", Mr. Trump said. Heidi Heitkamp, as totally out of touch.
The president is riding a winning streak with his endorsements. Two candidates he endorsed, South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster and Rep. Dan Donovan, of NY, prevailed in primaries Tuesday.
Trump said that, with Crowley's loss, he hopes Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) remain as party leaders.
The president described Crowley as "one of my biggest critics, a slovenly man [who] got his ass kicked by a young woman who had a lot of energy".
"I think political speeches are political speeches", she said in a phone interview after the Fargo rally Wednesday, June 28. Chuck Schumer of NY, the Democratic leader, after voting against a 20-week ban on abortions.
Trump also warned that if ICE were eliminated, the country would be "overrun with the worst criminal elements you have ever seen".
"They say Trump is starting a trade war", he said. We will not tolerate attacks on our law enforcement. "That's what you need and that is Kevin Cramer".
Trump's popularity in the North Dakota is unquestionably strong. He also told Trump he would "be with you 100 percent of the time".
Soon after Trump's 2016 win, he invited Heitkamp to NY to discuss a Cabinet post, and she has said he tried to persuade her to switch parties.
"You are the people who farm the prairie, tamed the badlands and squeezed oil out of rock", Trump said, speaking directly to the North Dakota citizens who lived under "big handsome skies".
