I can't think of a better replacement than someone like Prince Charles. I was jealous. I wish I had been there.
He spoke to the Prince straight afterwards, he said, getting to know him over the telephone before giving his blessing to their marriage following their engagement in November.
They have also announced plans to make an official trip to New Zealand, Australia, Fiji and Tonga in October. Either way, our hats are off to the newly-minted royal, who topped off her fetching ensemble with a detailed Philip Treacy hat.
Apparently unaware that strict protocol dictates royals never take a public political stance, Mr Markle claimed he and Harry discussed politics in a string of "interesting conversations" by phone. They were seen sharing glances and smiling at each other during the entire ceremony. "I was looking to change my image and obviously that was a mistake".
Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, who has several horses in training, were also in the procession.
The couple du jour arrived in onto the course in a carriage accompanied by Harry's uncle Prince Edward and Sophie, the Countess of Wessex.
"The first phone calls were "Daddy I have a new boyfriend.' And I said, 'That's really nice.' And then the next call was like, 'He's British.' And I was like, 'That's really nice.' And eventually the third time around was like, 'He's a prince.' At that point, she said 'It's Harry, '" Markle recalled". "I was thrilled to tears he was doing that, I just wish it had been my hand holding hers, not his", he said.
Thomas recalls how Harry asked for his daughter's hand in marriage just before the news of their engagement broke previous year.
"She's wanted children for a long time, yes", Thomas said of the duchess.
Markle also claimed that he discussed politics with his new royal son-in-law, including the U.S. president and Brexit.
When asked by host Piers Morgan if he believed the prince was a Trump fan, he responded: "I would hope not, now". He said "give Donald Trump a chance".
"He said, 'Hello Thomas.' I said, 'Hi Harry.' It became a conversation back and forth, mostly about politics". And I feel bad about it.
Markle said he gave Harry permission to marry his daughter over the phone. There was no real commitment for it.
He added that Prince Harry sounded "open to the experiment" of Brexit.
"My daughter is capable of anything and she will be a complement to the royal family". Before his heart attack and subsequent surgery, Thomas made headlines after getting caught staging paparazzi photos of himself.
It is thought that the Duchess' dress is made from silk or another light material, which would mean the fabric could pucker or leave noticeable marks should she have attached the name tag, whereas the Duchess of Cambridge has previously worn cotton or lace dresses to the event, which are less likely to be spoiled by the badge.
"They were very forgiving, both Harry and Meghan were very forgiving about it. Meghan said "everything is ready for you".
Markle's tailored monochrome look differs greatly from her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton who chose a more formal and classically feminine look for her first Royal Ascot appearance in 2016. "That is why I'm particularly proud to be patron of a Festival that shares my beliefs that business can and must be an global force for good".
