Even as speculations of Cristiano Ronaldo leaving Real Madrid in the ongoing summer window are rife, it has now emerged that the Portuguese superstar is unlikely to find his next destination outside Europe.
Reports also indicate that Ronaldo believes Real Madrid have not supported him well enough with regards to a potential court case surrounding image rights.
The Portuguese worldwide helped Real Madrid to four UCL titles in the last five years, and the EURO16 win with Portugal has made him one of the best players the game has ever seen.
The objective of the journey of the Madrid emissary to the English city was actually to tie up the signing of the young Rodrygo, a circumstance that occurred despite the Santos president's attempt to get more millions at the last moment and with the deal already closed.
Real Madrid themselves appear to be playing hardball, and President Florentino Perez maintains that Ronaldo is under contract for another three years and will therefore will remain in the Spanish capital for the foreseeable future.
Marcelo also said that five-time Ballon d'Or victor Ronaldo was in line to take the trophy again for 2018, while Neymar would win it for sure in future as he would "be as good as Cristiano" over time. "We all want Ronaldo to stay and Neymar has our doors wide open", Marcelo said.
"I've never understood the Ballon d'Or criteria", he said.
Both Ronaldo and Bale hinted they could leave Real after the 3-1 win over Liverpool in the Champions League final last month.
"I don't have any doubts, it's not important, I have to rest now, go and meet up with the Portugal team and in the next few weeks (I'll make an announcement)", he added. It will be interesting to see what the player does with regards to his future and the longer Madrid don't have a manager, there will be more such stories coming out.
"I just don't know if you get it because of the titles you've won, the season you've completed or just how good you are as a player".
