President Donald Trump's personal attorney Rudy Giuliani pushed back on reports that his boss is growing exhausted of his media tear, telling NBC News on Tuesday that the president was actually encouraging him to do more TV hits in the coming days.
"I just did one on Sunday, even though we had about four requests", he said. He added that Democrats were smart to avoid discussing impeachment in their election strategy.
Seth Meyers was surprised that Rudy Giuliani has said he feels pretty good about his media appearances over the weekend. "But everybody knows that, and he gives us great encouragement that we've finally gotten on the offensive".
The "Morning Joe" host said that Trump initially had concerns that Giuliani was "losing it" and that Giuliani was falling asleep in meetings. "He's very comfortable with the strategy we're pursuing". Giuliani recently came aboard, while John Dowd has resigned and Ty Cobb, who is spearheading Trump's defense from within the White House, plans to leave by the end of May. "I try to keep them under control".
Multiple news outlets have reported that Giuliani has fallen out of favor with Trump following a almost weeklong media blitz.
When asked specifically about sources telling CNN that the President was annoyed with Giuliani leaving open the possibility of Trump pleading the 5th Amendment, again Giuliani pushed back. Daniels says she had an affair with the president in 2006, something the White House has denied.
President Donald Trump will not be allowed to answer special counsel Robert Mueller's questions in writing, a method Trump's legal team thinks will help protect the President from lying or making misleading comments, CBS News reported.
Giuliani told Reid that he and the president's legal team continue to be in communication with the special counsel, but that he wants to have a better sense of the facts before engaging in formal negotiations about a possible interview. "We know the president didn't pay Cohen to pay Daniels, except he did, but from a general legal fund, which didn't exist, unless it does".
The "Late Show" host also noticed that Giuliani said they're still working on the facts.
In an interview Sunday with ABC's "This Week", Giuliani dismissed as rumor his own statements about Trump's payment to the actress.
Giuliani also suggested that he wants to wait until after Trump returns from a summit with North Korea on denuclearization to prepare the President for an interview with Mueller. But he later told NBC News that the payment had nothing to do with the campaign and was instead meant to "prevent personal embarrassment and heartache to his wife", first lady Melania Trump. Essentially all Kimmel did was was go over two of Giuliani's verbatim pronouncements clause by clause, causing his studio audience to repeatedly erupt in laughter-that's how nonsensical Giuliani's statements have been.
