Ghana's press attache Kenneth Odeng Adade has told insidethegames that he did not know of any Ghanaian athlete to have disappeared.

Commonwealth Games organising committee chairman Peter Beattie said they had worked hard with the Australian government on the entry system and he "encouraged" the 6,000 visiting athletes and officials not to breach the terms of their visas.

Dutton said if any of the missing athletes claimed protection status, Border Force would test each case.

"We have also laid formal complaint to the Australian police".

Weightlifter Olivier Matam and boxers Ndzie Tchoyi and Simplice Fotsala have not been found since they failed to take part in their respective competitions this week.

Meanwhile, Clémentine Noumbissi has brought a gleam of hope to Cameroon at the Games after the 27-year-old athlete won bronze in the women's 90kgs weightlifting.

Its a bit of an embarrassment for the countries to send out athletes and for them to go missing like this.

The athletes have not breached any visa rules yet, as their visas do not expire until May 15, but the matter has been reported to Australian police.

The missing group comprises five boxers and three weightlifters, with two of the athletes not bothering to turn up to compete.

Australia's Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton warned that athletes would be forcibly removed from the country if they attempted to overstay their visas. We had a lot of commendation for sticking to the strategy of developing young swimmers and giving them opportunities to compete at the highest levels.

"In qualifiers, I think I did a pretty good job and I'm happy with my result, but for the final it was a little bit tough because of the conditions and there was a little bit of pressure", said the Nanyang Polytechnic student.

The punishment against the Indian athletes comes as the Commonwealth Games nears a conclusion, with the closing ceremony taking place Sunday.

"The safety and welfare of those athletes from the Team Cameroon perspective is being taken very, very seriously, but we are obviously monitoring that situation with Team Cameroon", Mr Grevemberg added.

National Party spokesperson for Sport and Recreation Nikki Kaye is heading to the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games tomorrow to show her support for our Kiwi athletes.
