In the 2013 Assembly elections, Eshwarappa contested again from the Shimoha assembly constituency and lost to K.B. Prasanna Kumar of the Congress by a margin of almost 6,000 votes.

In the final stages of deciding its candidates for the high stakes Karnataka elections, the Congress is toying with the idea of fielding incumbent chief minister Siddaramaiah from two seats. The last date for filing the nominations is April 24, while April 27 is the last date of withdrawal of candidature.
Veteran state leaders Jagadish Shettar and KS Eswarappa would contest from Hubli Dharwad Central and Shimoga Assembly seats, respectively, media reports said. The BJP top brass, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party president Amit Shah, met earlier tonight to finalise the candidates for the polls.
The leaders are likely to meet Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday evening and discuss the candidates and poll strategy, the sources added.
She said that the party had, both online and off line, received more than 5700 applications for candidature and a special committee has been formed to select the candidates. However, Yeddyurappa merged the entity with the BJP before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and was elected to the Lok Sabha.
