A colorful pinwheel is usually a reminder of happy, healthy childhoods but it's also the official symbol of Child Abuse Prevention. Comparing the national rounded number of victims from 2012 (656,000) to the national estimate of victims in 2016 (676,000) shows an increase of 3.0 percent. Abusing a child, for all obvious reasons, is a despicable act that results more times than not in the cycle of abuse continuing at the hands of those once abused.
McCracken County deputies said a local doctor's office notified the department Friday of injuries to the child that were severe enough to require hospitalization. Review contact lists regularly and ask about any people you don't recognize. She urges people to think differently, "at the end of the day if you have suspicion of abuse then we want you to report and do your due diligence".
On Monday, the Children's Assessment Center kicked off the month with their community partners to help in the fight against child abuse. After all, child abuse and neglect is 100% preventable. Child abuse can also affect broader health outcomes into adolescence and adulthood.
Winners will receive grants to be used to support organizations striving to prevent child abuse and neglect.
Locally, the Children's Advocacy Center of Lowndes County provides services to children who have been in abusive environments.

During April and all year long, the Hunterdon County YMCA encourages adults and organizations in the community to play a vital role in making our community a safer place for children. "A lot of child abuse cases arise from situations and conditions that can be preventable when community programs and systems work together".
Children should be protected at all costs, and suspicious behavior should always be reported to authorities.
