Microsoft on Thursday, March 29th announced a major reorganisation with the formation of two main engineering teams, one focused on experiences and devices and the other on cloud and AI platforms. Microsoft is about to release a new feature update for Windows 10, known as the "Spring Creators Update" (that name's not official yet, but we're confident it's right), that has lots of new features, enhancements, and changes.
Windows devices chief and longtime Microsoft executive Terry Myerson will leave the company as part of the moves. Rajesh Jha, who is now executive vice president of Microsoft's Office product group, will lead the experiences and devices team, according to Nadella's e-mail.
Myerson had been in charge of Microsoft's Windows and Devices Group, which oversaw product R&D for the Windows and Windows Server operating systems, as well as Surface devices, the Xbox and the HoloLens AR headset.
With Myerson's departure, Panos Panay will step up to the title of chief product officer. He will be the key leader ensuring end-to-end devices business execution excellence. "In the past, Windows was always the focus".
Kudo Tsunoda, corporate vice president for Next Gen Experiences, who will be tasked with creating "high-value experiences" for users. Windows, for the company, has become an nearly legacy services that it now supports because millions of people use it and not because it is something that is going to bring a lot of revenue to Microsoft. Zander is also inheriting the Windows platform team to help create a more "unified distributed computing infrastructure and application model".
Microsoft's Universal Store and Commerce Platform led by Eric Lockard. Certain parts of Microsoft's AI + Research group are also moving to Guthrie's organization.
"For Business AI, the customer service, marketing and sales Insights teams, previously led by Gurdeep Singh Pall, will join James Phillips' Business Applications Group", the Microsoft CEO said. Harry Shum will continue to lead Microsoft third's engineering team, AI + Research.
