Arsene Wenger said that Arsenal responded "like a boxer" in their Europa League win over AC Milan, and insisted that his team have quality ahead of tomorrow's Premier League home clash against Watford.
With Arsenal having lost eight of their previous 13 matches in all competitions, Wenger was facing a fight to save his job ahead of the trip to Italy.
Arsenal are a talented team that is playing poorly while Watford are not as talented but are playing well.
"On Sunday I have to see how everybody recovers, we gave a lot [on Thursday] I felt", he said.
Wenger's future at Arsenal, where he has been in charge since 1996, has been a source of constant debate.
"It's not just football, there's good times and you get praised for them, and there's bad times where you get negative criticism but you've got to take it". The forward missed the side's impressive 0-2 win in Milan due to his involvement with Dortmund in the Europa League meaning the 29-year old forward should be a lot fresher than his teammates, eager to get used to the pace of the league. "We've just got to stick together".
Prior to Sunday's crucial match against Genoa, AC Milan manager Gennaro Gattuso spoke to the assembled media in Milano on Saturday. We want first of all to win the game.
"We started the game thinking we're in for a real test here and we have to be ready defensively, we have to be willing to work hard, to dig in, dig deep", he said.
Wilshere has been one of the shining lights in an otherwise hugely disappointing season for Arsenal.
Indeed, Arsenal have lost four of their last five Premier League games to all but end their hopes of a Champions League spot this term.
"Every manager will tell you when he doesn't get results that the first thing affected is the mood, the lack of sleep [because of] that desire to find solutions", he said.
Meanwhile, Watford sit ninth in the table following back-to-back home victories, with the Hornets looking to complete the double over Arsenal after winning the reverse fixture 2-1 at Vicarage Road in October. Arsene Wenger has hit back and it would be interesting to see if the obviously hostile reception that Deeney would get at the Emirates has an effect on the player as he is one of the key men in the side - who also scored their most recent victor against West Brom to claim all three points.
"Always it's complicated to play a big club or team, but we are confident we can do it".
