Pomona PD Officer Gregory Casillas was sworn in only six months ago, and was almost finished with field training. Casillas' wife, the mother of their two young children, and his family members were joined by his law enforcement family, pastors, residents and city leaders.

The officer's death prompted an outpouring of support from locals and the law enforcement community, which included dozens of police vehicles and numerous officers paying tribute outside of the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office Saturday morning.

He refused to stop.

Two police officers were shot while responding to a call Friday night that a suspect had barricaded themselves inside a house. The other officer was in surgery Saturday but was expected to recover, officials said.

The man was holed up in the apartment for more than 15 hours as a SWAT team used flash-bang grenades and cameras to watch him and crisis negotiators tried to coax him into coming out peacefully. The suspect then ran into an apartment in the 1400 block of Palomares Street, near Fernleaf Avenue. "Ultimately, the suspect was taken into custody".

Officer Casillas graduated from the San Bernardino Police Academy last year and served as an officer with the Pomona Police Department for less than a year, where he previously worked as a records clerk and jailer.
