That enables a 0-100 kph time of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 315 kph. The two twin-scroll turbochargers introduce a new anti-friction bearing system to maximize performance. Further complicating things, the Four-Door Coupe had to maintain the rigid body structure that let the original grand tourer handle so well, whether on street or track.
The new member of the Mercedes-AMG family will be offered in three versions, at least initially, including the GT 53 4MATIC+, the GT 63 4MATIC+ and the range-topping GT 63 S 4MATIC+.
At launch, there will be a base GT 53 model plus sportier GT 63 and GT 63 S variants. So when the claim that the four-door GT "offers more space and greater versatility" is made, it's hard to see why someone looking for those traits wouldn't just opt for something like the excellent E63 S estate.
All three come with a nine-speed transmission and all-wheel-drive, which can be locked into rear-wheel-drive on the 63s by activating a "Drift" setting.
Just as important for keeping the C43 competitive with the excellent Audi S4 and a likely M340i version of the upcoming next-gen BMW 3-series is the injection of 23 more horsepower for its twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6. High-performance ceramic brakes are available for the V-8 models. In a straight line, the spoiler lowers to minimize wind resistance, but in a corner, it raises to increase downforce and improve handling.
Depending upon which engine package a buyer chooses, there are up to six driving programs which adjust a range of vehicle functions, including steering, shifting and suspension. The new Supersport view adds AMG-specific information.
The two-door GTs start around $135,000 here in Canada, so we can propose this four-door will be even higher than that. "The first is fitted to the '63′ version that kicks out 576bhp, while the second is installed in the top-end '63 S", which has 630bhp at its disposal.
The interior of the 2019 Mercedes-AMG C43 has gotten an upgrade as well, starting with the leather-wrapped, speed-sensitive, variable-ratio AMG steering wheel, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, aluminum and Dinamica microfiber trim and Artico leather with red top-stitching on the seats.
Equipment options include the Executive equipment package, which costs £1,395 and upgrades the standard seven-inch central touchscreen media display to a 10.25-inch screen, as well as adding Active Parking Assist with Parktronic, heated front seats and Mirror package.
