Students spent hours locked down in classrooms and dormitories while armed police searched Central Michigan University. Police say they found him within the search perimeter after midnight.
CMU Police Chief Bill Yeagley said he was not surprised that Davis was so close.

A relative told CNN: "The family is in shock and trying to piece everything together". A motive was not immediately clear. He was arrested without incident.
Davis Sr. and his wife, Diva Davis, picked up their son from the hospital early Friday and brought him back to the Mount Pleasant campus with the intention of bringing him home for spring break. Students were ordered to stay in their dorm halls or seek an escort from a uniformed officer.

A manhunt continues for a 19-year-old student suspected of killing his parents at a Central Michigan University dormitory.
"James ran into the community police very frightened", Yeagley said. Since he was an officer in IL, he would have needed special permission to have the gun on campus, authorities said. The department didn't elaborate on what caused the health complication that sent Davis Jr.to the hospital. The police believe he shot both his parents after a family-related dispute. Davis Sr. was a police officer in west suburban Bellwood and an Illinois National Guard veteran who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
"He was the guy I could talk to when I needed to tell someone something", he said, adding he spoke to Davis the day before the shooting and he seemed "normal".
Police had asked for the public's help in finding Davis.
Harvey said that the village is "supplying counseling to officers or anyone in the community who needs it".
"It's really tragic that we've lost James", said Allen.
